  • The Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Thursday passed by voice vote the State Special Zone Security Force Bill, which will allow the Mayawati government to set up a separate police force to guard statues of dalit icons.

    Initiating the discussion on the bill, parliamentary affairs minister Lalji Varma said the state police and the PAC were not equipped to ensure security at parks and monuments dedicated to dalit icons. The security of communally sensitive shrines in Kashi, Ayodhya and Mathura had been entrusted to the CISF, he noted.

  • Janata Party President Dr.Subramanian Swamy said UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi should take a stand on the request of Nalini, a life convict in the Rajiv Gandhi Assassination case, for premature release from prison. “She (Gandhi) should realise that Nalini has committed a huge crime.”

    “If Sonia Gandhi fails to take a stand on this issue, it would mean that she has something to hide,” added Dr. Swamy, who has moved the Madras High Court opposing the setting up of the Vellore Prison Advisory Board to consider Nalini’s plea.

  
  • Referring to the “Mumbai for Marathis” stand of Shiv Sena and MNS, he described it as ‘ridiculous’ and said even Maharashtrians would not support this kind of ‘fanatic views’. “I had been an MP from Mumbai for two terms. Maharastrians voted for me... this shows they will not support any kind of fanaticism,” he said.

  • The ten Pakistani terrorists who attacked Mumbai on November 26, 2008 could have been guided by an Indian handler whose true identity was yet to be ascertained, Home Minister P Chidambaram said.

     

    “When we say he could be an Indian, he could be somebody who acquired Indian characteristics. He could have been infiltrated into India and lived here long enough to acquire an Indian accent, familiarity with Indian Hindi words or he could be somebody who exfiltrated from India to Pakistan and was adopted by the militants there”, Chidambaram said.

  • Investigators had known for long time that there was a handler in 26/11 attack who could be an Indian.
  • “We know him by Abu Jindal that something we have known for many many months now... but he is not Abu Jindal. That is not his real name. We cannot put a finger who he is, unless we get a voice sample. And they won't give us voice sample. “There is a speculation that Abu Jindal could be....but how as a Home Minister I can speculate? I can’t speculate”, he told news channel.

  • SHEKHAR Kallianpur was born into a staunch Hindu Saraswat Brahmin household as the son of a Hindu priest and astrologer and grandson of a numerologist. As a young boy, he was expected to follow the family tradition of meticulous Hindu rites, rituals and astrological predictions. But what Shekhar’s family couldn’t predict despite their expertise in astrology was that God had a very different plan for him. Jesus Christ had chosen Shekhar to be a man of God. While he was still a teenager, he accepted Jesus as his personal savior. The 50-year-old Shekhar Kallianpur now leads the New Life Fellowship Church of Juhu in Mumbai as its pastor. He has brought a change in several lives in India by proclaiming the love of Jesus to them.

  • Later did any of your family members or relatives accept Christ as their savior?

     

    Both my brothers have accepted Jesus as their personal savior. One of my brothers is a pastor in Dallas in the United States.

  • Mota Singh, who is the UK’s first Sikh and Asian judge, has been knighted by the British Queen.
    
    London-based Mota Singh, who is also a Queen’s Counsel, has  been knighted in the Queen’s New Year Honors List for  “services to the Administration of Justice, Community  Relations and to the Voluntary Sector”.
    
    His decision to wear a white turban in court, instead of  a wig, came to be seen as a sign of a multicultural Britain.
    
    A Ramgarhia Sikh, Mota Singh was raised and educated in  Nairobi, Kenya. In 1954, he shifted to England to complete the  remaining part of his studies of Law. He joined the English bar in 1967.

  • Dharni, 68, who is also the Chairman of Bradford’s Hindu Cultural Society, emigrated to the city from India in 1963. He worked as a bus driver, ran and sold his own insurance broker and travel companies.
    
    Dharni was a key figure behind the three million pounds project to build the Laxmi Narayan Hindu temple, in Leeds Road, which was opened by the Queen in May 2007.
