No question of govt controlling church assets - Goa - City - NEWS - The Times of India
- PANAJI
- "There is no question of government control on church and community properties," AICU official spokesman John Dayal said at a press conference in Panaji. Dayal said the AICU represents the Catholic laity in the country.
- He said that the Christian situation is different from that of Hindu, Muslim and Sikh religions, which had been cited by speakers at the seminar. Dayal said that the Devasthanam boards cover only a few prominent places of Hindu worship and their properties, while leaders of the Muslim community had often complained on political and administrative interference from the government in the Wakf board. He also said that the Sikhs had rejected an Act proposed by the government and put forth its own reformed law.
