After meeting ex-RSS chief, Shia cleric approves ‘Vande Mataram’

  • tags: no_tag

    • ‘I see nothing wrong for a Muslim to recite Vande Mataram as long as it means salutation to the nation and does not amount to offering prayers,’ Shia scholar and All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) member Maulana Hameedul Hasan told IANS.
    • This follows the Maulana’s ‘heart-to-heart’ talk with former Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) chief K.C. Sudarshan, who in an unprecedented move drove down to the former’s residence here Sunday.
    • The Sunday meeting here was organised at the initiative of the Muslim Rashtriya Manch, a RSS brainchild.

It was rare occasion when a Maulana talked about misunderstandings among Hindus about the Koran and a RSS bigwig eulogised the life and achievements of Prophet Mohammad.

    • Seeking to dispel the common impression that Muslims were responsible for the creation of Pakistan, the Maulana said: ‘No Muslim has any soft corner for Pakistan. The bulk of Indian [^] Muslims opposed the country’s partition.’

Interestingly, RSS stalwart Sudarshan also seemed to second the Maulana’s view by adding: ‘It were the British who brought about the partition in collusion with Jawaharlal Nehru.’

Proud to sing Vande Mataram!: Rediff.com India News

    • Was the April 7, 2009 fatwa meant to set the stage for the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind's November resolution?

Why was it issued after the Deoband vigorously distanced itself from the Vande Mataram controversy'?

And what prompted the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind to revive the rancid debate over whether it's haram for Muslims to sing Vande Mataram?

Was the purpose to provoke a backlash and then claim victimhood?

    • Tarun Vijay on what the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena's show of power in the state assembly on Monday means for India [ Images ].

If anybody wants to know why a handful of Britishers could rule us for so many years, they must study Raj Thackeray's [ Images ] ascendancy.

He is just not an enemy to the grand Maratha culture, but an anti-pan Indian vision who has given credibility to a politics promoted by hate and communal strife.

Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi must thank Raj profusely for enabling him to enjoy the support of the state's gullible Hindi-speaking people who think here is a man in Maharashtra who stood for their language.

What an irony, and what a joke!

    • All four MNS legislators won from erstwhile Shiv Sena [ Images ] strongholds. It shows that the emphasis on raising the volume and playing the 'victim' card riding on sectarian issues helps small regional parties in an atmosphere where the major players are unable to attract people's support on larger issues.

When one national player, the Congress party, began helping Raj to take on its arch rivals in Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party [ Images ], it was playing a dangerous game like it did in the late 1970s and mid-1980s when it promoted Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and placated Muslim extremists respectively.

Such steps may help momentarily, but in the long run they prove acidic for the nation's social fabric and damage the party playing with such fire.

Consider Kilvisharam panchayat de-merger: SC

  • tags: no_tag

    • The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Tamil Nadu government to consider within three months the representations filed by Kilvisharam villagers for the de-merger of their panchayat from the Melvisharam panchayat of Vellore district and forward the same to the Governor to act upon.
    • In 1996, at the urging of the neighbouring village of Melvisharam, the two villages of Melvisharam and Kilvisharam were merged to form the Melvisharam panchayt. Melvisharam is a much larger community and constitutes 17 wards while Kilvisharam constitutes only four wards. And Melvisharam is a predominantly Muslim majority area whereas Kilvisharam is rural and Hindu, it was averred.
    • It was alleged that when this problem was brought to the notice of the functionaries of the panchayat, they suggested that the inhabitants of Kilvisharam wards convert themselves to Islam. Thus, they were discriminated against on grounds of religion, a violation of Article 15 (1) of the Constitution.

    • But not all the Muslims think like this. The Muslim reformist, Asghar Ali Engineer said: “With each one vying to promote himself as a better Muslim, they have forgotten the Jamiat’s glorious tradition of participation in the freedom movement, of which Vande Mataram  was an inseparable part. This resolution has eclipsed the very purpose of the meeting to condemn terrorism” In fact of the 15 resolutions passed by the Jamiat-e-Ulema-I-Hind at his anti-terrorism conference at Dar Ul Uloom Deoband, only one was highlighted by the media.
    • Asghar Ali Engineer points out examples from the Muslim tradition when the Mughal emperors made courtiers bow to them as sign of respect: “So why should we not bow to our Mother-land?” The poet Allama Iqbal wrote: “Each speck of the motherland is God to me”. There is a variety of Islamic beliefs in India: “The Deobandis consider even singing salaams to Prophet Mohammed’s glory as haraam (sinful) but most Indian Muslims do not” says Engineer “The Deobandis cannot impose their Islam on all Indian Muslims”.
    • “Under compulsion - says Engineer - I won’t sing it to prove my patriotism. And if ordered not to sing by any fatwa, I will sing it to assert my freedom of choice”.

    • Five Lakhs Rupees each for those who died in Mallapuram and Thiruvananthapuram and One Lakh rupees for those who died in Kasargode.
    • The loss of their Children is equally painful for their parents and family whether they are from a Hindu, Christian or Muslim family. No amount of money from any one could replace the loss of young kids.

But why this double standards even to the dead bodies of Hindu Children? If this is not blind hatred towards Hindus- Then what is this? Is this the equality you Communists are preaching
