  • The entire problem of border intrusions today arises from the fact that China wishes to keep its options open by not spelling out where, in its view, the LOAC lies, so that it can continue to intrude, at a time and place of its choosing, into populated areas in Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh and undermine public confidence in our border areas, in New Delhi's will and ability to defend our territorial integrity.
  • We should remember that China still has festering disputes on its maritime boundaries with Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Brunei and Malaysia and that China settles its border disputes only when a weakened neighbour succumbs to its pressures. In the meantime, China does not hesitate to assert its presence across disputed boundaries with militarily weaker neighbours the like Japan, the Philippines and Vietnam. The Chinese respect national power and will respect India only if our economic and military strength warrants respect for us as a people and as a country.

  • The day I read a news item that Kanchi Sankaracharya Jayendra Sarasvati entered a Harijan slum, I commented to a friend, ‘he has written his own arrest warrant.’ My friend did not understand.   • This attack on this sacred institution must be understood in the broader context of the threat to Hindu civilization from the so-called neutral secular state.

This is because these mathams derived their legitimacy from their position and not to any secular support. Once some Mathams began to get into social reform or education or health care, the secular state was upset because the actions of these seers carries phenomenal conviction among the poorer strata and de-legitimizes the hegemony of politicians and bureaucrats over poverty or caste-oriented issues. In the case of the secular-Utsava seers, the state is not unduly concerned as they are mostly individuals with charisma but do not have a hoary tradition and thousands of years of legitimacy.
  • …This is the backdrop in which the Kanchi Seer tried to solve secular problems using his sacred institution. When he tried to reach out to Harijans, exploring the possibility of a dignified life for them, the political class was disturbed. The secular state was worried since the accepted model in the political discourse for “liberation” of Harjans is either conversion to other religions or a possible overthrow of the caste system.

  • One person who would certainly be rooting for Jagan to be the next chief minister would be one B Ramalinga Raju, the former chairman of Satyam Computers who is now an occupant of Hyderabad's Chanchalguda jail. Raju has been accused of fraud, forgery, cheating and insider trading. His scandal broke when he admitted that Rs 7,000 crore had disappeared from the company and subsequently surrendered to the police. Investigators found that the money had disappeared not because the accounts had been inflated, but because it had been siphoned off. Opposition leader N Chandrababu Naidu, on the floor of the Andhra Assembly, charged Raju with giving the money to 14 of Jagan's companies for laundering.

  • जो कोई 1991 में शुरू हुए भारत के उदारीकरण को जानता है वह यह भी जानता है कि उस वक्त अल्पकाल के लिए देश के प्रधानमंत्री बने चंद्रशेखर ने देश का 65 टन सोना गिरवी रखा था. भारत की इस दयनीयता का उस वक्त सभी ने रोना रोया था कि भारत को अपना सोना गिरवी रखना पड़ा. उसके बाद भारत में उदारीकरण की शुरूआत हुई और भारत ने व्यावसायिक उपलब्धियों के झंडे भी गाड़े हैं लेकिन आज तक भारत के माथे पर गिरवी रखे 65 टन कलंक की तरह इस सोने को वापस लाने की कोई कोशिश नहीं की. आज भी यह सोना जस का तस गिरवी रखा हुआ है और भारत सरकार को नहीं लगता कि इस सोने को वापस भारत लाना चाहिए.
  • चौंकानेवाली बात यह है कि इन अट्ठारह सालों में अभी तक केंद्र की किसी भी सरकार ने इसे वापस लाने में कोई दिलचस्पी नहीं दिखाई है और रिजर्व बैंक भी इसे विदेशी निवेश मानकर बराबर अपने विदेशी मुद्रा खजाने में गिनता रहता है। आपको बता दें कि भारत सरकार ने विदेश में गिरवी रखे इस 65.27 टन सोने के एवज में बैंक ऑफ इंग्लैंड से जो ऋण लिया था, उसे सितंबर-नवंबर 1991 के दौरान ही लौटा दिया गया था और यह सोना अब गिरवी नहीं, बल्कि जमा के रूप में रखा गया है। 
  • लॉ फर्म के उक्त जानकार का कहना है कि तात्कालिक  जरूरत के लिए सोना गिरवी रखना जरूरी था। लेकिन अब भी अपना सोना बाहर रखने का कोई तुक नहीं है। वे तो यहां तक सवाल उठाते हैं कि रिजर्व बैंक का सारा कामकाज ब्रिटिश शासन में बने रिजर्व बैंक अधिनियम, 1934 से निर्धारित होता है तो कहीं ऐसा तो नहीं है कि इस अधिनियम के अंदर ही कोई प्रावधान है जिसने बैंक ऑफ इंग्लैंड को खास दर्जा दे रखा है?

    पीएचई विभाग में चतुर्थ श्रेणी कर्मचारी के पद पर कार्यरत राजेश रघुवंशी पिछले 14 वर्षों से रोजा रख रहे हैं। अब परिवार के मुखिया की तर्ज पर पूरा परिवार रोजा रखकर पवित्र रमजान माह में खुदा की इबादत करता है। इस परिवार की खास बात यह है कि रमजान माह में यह परिवार भगवान की पूजा-अर्चना के साथ ही खुदा की इबादत भी करता है।

  • रतलाम के प्रमुख समाचार-पत्र विक्रेता सत्यनारायण बहादर के बेटे दीपक उर्फ दीपू (28) ने करीब छह माह पहले ही मोचीपुरा निवासी एक मुस्लिम युवती से प्रेम विवाह किया था। इस घटना को उसी से जोड़कर देखा जा रहा है। हत्यारों का सुराग नहीं मिला है। कुछ लोगों को हिरासत में लिया गया है।

    दीपक हमेशा बाहर जाते समय घर का दरवाजा बाहर से बंद कर जाता था ताकि उसकी पत्नी फरजाना सुरक्षित रहे। गुरुवार रातभर दीपक घर नहीं आया तो फरजाना उसे मोबाइल फोन पर कॉल करती रही। शुक्रवार सुबह 10 बजे तक जब वह नहीं लौटा और मोबाइल फोन बंद मिला तो गर्भवती फरजाना उसे ढूंढने पिछले दरवाजे से बाहर निकली और दीपक के भाई को फोन लगाया। दोपहर 1 बजे एएसपी व सीएसपी ने फरजाना के बयान लिए तो उसने आरोपियों के नाम पुलिस को बताए।

  • 6 माह पहले किया था प्रेम विवाह

    दीपक ने करीब छह माह पहले मोचीपुरा निवासी फरजाना पिता इब्राहीम से भागकर प्रेम विवाह किया था। दोनों पक्षों के बीच विवाद की स्थिति बनी थी और पुलिस में शिकायतें हुई थी। उसी समय से दीपक पत्नी के साथ परिवार से अलग खान बावड़ी क्षेत्र में रह रहा था। दीपक के परिजन ने हत्या में दीपक की पत्नी के परिजन पर शंका जाहिर की है।

    प्रेम विवाह के बाद दीपक बहादर (सालवी) ने पुलिस के वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों को जान का खतरा बताकर आवेदन दिए थे लेकिन पुलिस ने उसके आवेदन पर ध्यान नहीं दिया। उसके परिजन बताते हैं कि दीपक अपने दोस्तों से भी कहता था कि उसे धमकियां मिल रही हैं। पुलिस अब लकीर पीट रही है।
