  • Nepal's homosexual community, which is led by Asia's only openly gay member of parliament, will next month host a tourism conference to explore how to attract wealthy gay visitors to boost the country's war-ravaged economy.

    The country's new constitution will legalise homosexual marriage in May this year, when "Pink Mountain" will begin offering luxury honeymoon and wedding packages.

    Khadilkar, who hails from a small town near Kolhapur, can perform any ritual and ceremony with relative ease and chant the most difficult Sanskrit mantras, without referring to any book. "When I started training to become a priestess or purohita, all I wanted was to be able to perform some rituals for my family or see if the family priest had made any mistake while doing a ritual," she recalled.
    
    Now, however, Khadilkar has outdone herself and become a purohita for many a Pune family, who plan their family ceremonies as per her schedule.
  • "The purohitas are trained to conduct any ritual right from a satyanarayan pooja, naming ceremony, house-warming, weddings, sacred-thread ceremony and various types of yajnas. However, purohitas trained by the SSS do not conduct shradh or rituals done following a death," said Khadilkar.
  • Kulkarni said that when the purohita his family engages was widowed a few years ago, she told him that she would not continue as a priestess in view of the society's attitude towards widows. "But I insisted that she continue the good work and be our family purohita."

Tension in Guledagudda over idol desecration

  • Police today lathicharged a crowd during a protest organised by Hindu outfits against desecration of idols in a temple by some unidentified persons in Guledagudda in the district today, officials said.
    
    Police said one idol was desecrated and another from the same temple removed and placed in a place of worship of another community by "mischievous elements".
    
    No one was injured in the lathicharge, police said, adding, six protesters were taken into custody.
    
    Prohibitory orders have been clamped in the town for today as tension prevailed, but the situation was under control, police said.

  • The Daily Mail’s findings indicate that the incident occurred at a time when the US Defence Secretary Robert Gates and US Special Envoy on Pakistan and Afghanistan Richard Holbrook were set to hold talks with Indians to discuss an elaborated military role of India in Afghanistan.
    These findings further indicate that New Delhi is desirous of taking a comprehensive military role in Afghanistan after the US and the NATO troops are withdrawn from the war ravaged country and thus it wants to be militarily engaged in Afghanistan right now to take the military control gradually. The Indians are planning to get a nod in this regard, during or after the high profile international conference on Afghanistan that is going to be held in London later this month. The findings reveal that at the moment, the Indians have planned to prove their importance for deployment in Afghanistan to the Americans and the NATO members and thus it has launched an aggressive campaign of terror and insurgency operations in Afghanistan through its own agents and operatives.

  • A programme to mark two decades of Kashmiri Hindus' exodus from the Valley was disrupted here this evening for several minutes when a heated exhange of words broke out social activist Madhu Kishwar and two women who accused her of supporting self-rule in Jammu and Kashmir.
    
    The trouble began when Kishwar, one of the speakers, started addressing the audience by explaining her family's link with Jammu and Kashmir.
    
    Nancy Kaul, who espouses the cause of displaced Kashmiris, charged towards Kishwar demanding she first read a "resolution" passed at a 'multi-party dialogue' on Jammu and Kashmir.
    
    She accued Kishwar, who is also the editor of journal 'Manushi', of supporting self-rule in Jammu and Kashmir.
    
    Kishwar shot back that Kaul could not differntiate between a 'ghoda' and a 'gadha'. At this, another woman, who was sitting next to Kaul, stood up and demanded Kishwar apologise for her remarks.

  • इस मुकदमे का मुख्य प्रयोजन यह था कि वहां स्थापित रामलला मूर्ति को न्यायिक व्यक्ति न मानना क्या मंदिर पक्ष के लिए लाभकारी हो सकता है? न्यायालय का फैसला हिन्दू या मुसलमानों में से किसी के भी पक्ष में हो तो भी मूर्ति हटायी नहीं जा सकेगी, क्योंकि उसे सुनवायी का अवसर ही नहीं दिया है। यह न्याय की स्वाभाविक प्रक्रिया के विपरीत होगा कि बिना उसकी बात और तर्क सुने उसे उचित प्रतिवाद का मौका दिये उसके खिलाफ कोई निर्णय नहीं हो जाए। इसलिए जीते कोई भी लेकिन तब तक रामलला विराजमान रहेंगे, क्योंकि उन्हें सेन्ट्रल सुन्नी वक्फ बोर्ड ने भी पक्ष नहीं बनाया है।
  • लेकिन क्या प्राणप्रतिष्ठा के अभाव में इसकी मान्यता समाप्त हो सकती है। यह प्रश्न भी विचारणीय है कि जब मूर्ति स्वत: प्रकट हुई है तो उसकी प्राणप्रतिष्ठा कैसे हो सकती थी। इसलिए इस प्राकट्य को दैविक आस्थाजनित माना जाए और इस प्रकार वह मूर्ति स्वत: देवपुरुष का स्थान ले सकती है?

  • शहर के वार्ड दो व तीन के मध्य स्थित भगवद्धाम मंदिर सांप्रदायिक एकता का प्रतीक है। आजादी से पहले यहां मुस्लिम उर्स होते थे। आज यहां हिंदु उत्सव होते हैं। शहर का यह एकमात्र ऐसा धर्म स्थल है। जहां आज भी मजार पर वैसे ही पूजा होती है। जैसे देवी-देवताओं की प्रतिमाओं की। आजादी के बाद पाकिस्तान से आए हिंदुओं ने १९४८ में यहा सत्संग आरंभ किया था।
  • श्री कृष्ण गोविंद जनसेवा ट्रस्ट के माध्यम् से इस धर्मस्थल का संचालन होता है। मंदिर के साथ-साथ मजार के रख-रखाव का पूरा ख्याल रखा जाता है। संचालन समिति के सहसचिव हंस राज गेरा ने बताया कि मजार व मंदिर साथ-साथ होने से श्रद्धालु खुश हैं। २४ फरवरी १९८१ से परिसर में स्कूल भी संचालित किया जा रहा है।

    30 जनवरी, माघ पूर्णिमा: माघ महीने में यह पूर्ण चंद्र दिवस होता है। इस दिन गंगा में स्नान करना पवित्र माना जाता है।
    
    12 फरवरी, श्री महाशिवरात्रि: महाशिवरात्रि को शाही स्नान होगा। इसी दिन भगवान शिव का विवाह का देवी पार्वती के साथ हुआ। कुंभ मेला में यह सबसे महत्वपूर्ण स्नान दिवस और कुछ अवसरों में से एक है जब साधु स्नान के लिए जुलूस में निकलते हैं।
    
    15 मार्च, सोमवती अमावस्या: अच्छे स्वास्थ्य, बच्चों और लंबे जीवन के लिए नए महीने के पहले दिन गंगा में स्नान किया जाता है। धर्मग्रंथों के अनुसार इससे श्रद्धालुओं की मुक्ति में सहायता मिलती है।
    
    16 मार्च, श्री रामनवमी: यह भगवान राम का जन्मदिन है।
    
    30 मार्च, चैत्र पूर्णिमा: भगवान विष्णु के भक्तों के लिए यह विशेष दिन है और इस स्नान को वैष्णव अक्षर स्नान कहा जाता है। इस दिन हनुमान की भगवान राम के साथ या अकेले ही पूजा की जाती है।
    
    14 अप्रैल मेष संक्रान्ति: हिंदू कैलेंडर के अनुसार वर्ष के पहले दिन शाही स्नान होता है। परंपरागत रूप से इस दिन सबसे अधिक लोग स्नान करते हैं।
    
    28 अप्रैल, वैशाख अधिमास: कुंभ मेला में यह अंतिम पूर्ण चंद्र दिवस होता है। मेले के अंत में अपना स्थान छोड़ने से पहले साधु और श्रद्धालु गंगा में अंतिम बार स्नान करते हैं।

  • इंदौर के एरोड्रम रोड निवासी प्रियंका पिता पुरुषोत्तम खरे और मनीष पिता महेंद्र भावसार बालिग हैं। दोनों 15 जनवरी को घर से फरार हो गए। 17 जनवरी को हिंदू रीति-रिवाजों से दोनों ने इतवारा के एक मंदिर में प्रेम विवाह कर लिया। प्रियंका के पिता पुलिस में हैं।
  • पुरुषोत्तम के पिता महेंद्र भावसार को तीन दिन से पुलिस ने एरोड्रम थाने में बैठा रखा है। पुलिस अधीक्षक एम.के. कटकवार व सीएसपी राकेश खाखा को दी शिकायत में उनसे सुरक्षा की गुहार लगाई।
    सौतेली मां के कारण घर छोड़ा : प्रियंका ने बताया उसे सौतेली मां द्वारा समय-समय पर प्रताड़ित किया जाता था। इस कारण उसने घर छोड़कर प्रेम विवाह करने का निर्णय लिया। अब वे फोन पर जान से मारने की धमकी दे रही हैं।

  • मुस्लिम लीग को छोड़कर मा‌र्क्सवादियों का ही वह अकेला राजनीतिक कुनबा था, जिसने मजहब आधारित पाकिस्तान के सृजन को न्यायोचित ठहराया। मोहम्मद अली जिन्ना को मा‌र्क्सवादियों ने ही वे सारे तर्क-कुतर्क उपलब्ध कराए, जो उसे अलग पाकिस्तान के निर्माण के लिए चाहिए थे। एक तरह से पाकिस्तान के जन्म में वामपंथियों ने 'दाई' की भूमिका निभाई है।

    आजादी के बाद केरल में कम्युनिस्ट मुख्यमंत्री ईएमएस नंबूदरीपाद ने मुस्लिम बहुल एक नए जिले-मल्लपुरम का सृजन किया। मुस्लिम कट्टरपंथ को कम्युनिस्टों का सहयोग व समर्थन हमेशा मिलता रहा है। वह चाहे सद्दाम हुसैन का मसला हो या फलस्तीन-ईरान का-मा‌र्क्सवादी कट्टरंथियों के मजहबी जुनून में हमेशा शरीक होते आए। सात समंदर पार एक डेनिश कार्टूनिस्ट ने पैगंबर साहब का अपमानजनक कार्टून बनाया तो उसका भारत के मुसलमानों ने हिंसक विरोध किया। उनके साथ कम्युनिस्टों का लाल झडा भी शहर दर शहर लहराता रहा। बाग्लादेशी लेखिका तस्लीमा नसरीन को कट्टरपंथियों की अनुचित माग के कारण ही रातोरात कोलकाता से बेघर कर दिया गया।

  • While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is arguing for the formation of smaller states like Telangana and Gorkhaland, the majority of those who participated in an online survey conducted by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) say that the creation of smaller states is not helpful for the development of India.
    
    Responding to a question on the RSS’ official website www.rss.org — “Is creation of smaller states helpful for the development of Bharat?”, 53.5 per cent so far have voted against the formation of smaller states. 
    
    The remainder 46.5 per cent voters said “yes” to the query posted. The first vote was marked Dec 12, 2009. Till Monday, a total of 767 people have marked their votes.

    A Division Bench comprising Mr Justice K Sreedhara Rao and Mr Justice Ravi B Mallimath granted six weeks time to the special cell, headed by DIG Central Investigation Department (CID) Malini Krishnamurthy, constituted to probe the ''love jihad'' movement allegedly involving luring of girls from other communities by Muslim youths and converting them to Islam, and submit its report as per State Government's request.

    The latest broadcasts have provoked the people living along the border to speak against the attempts of Radio Pakistan to provoke controversy. Dr. J P Singh Chhabra, an eminent intellectual and Mrs. Daljit Kaur, a housewife of the region, said that Radio Pakistan should stop fomenting trouble in India and focus on the various problems like terrorism and ethnic clashes back home in Pakistan itself.

  • A mob of fundamentalist Hindu women attacked 12 believers in India's Punjab State. Grand Rapids, Michigan-based Mission India says one of their church planters was leading a day of fasting and prayer in the home of a new Christian. 

    Around 20 women surrounded the group, shouted anti-christian slurs at them, and threw rocks. The meeting's host, Balaram, was hit in the head, and the female-led mob fled when he fell to the ground unconscious. He was rushed to the hospital and required 8 stitches in his head. Other believers also suffered minor injuries.
