    • Siddhivinayak temple in central Mumbai late on Monday night.
    • No arrests have been made in connection with the case so far, said the police.

Some TV channels, which showed clippings of the attackers beating up the pilgrims, claimed that the attack was carried out by members of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena. However, MNS leader Atul Sarpotdar denied his party's role in the incident.

Forcing people to vote is a good idea: Rediff.com India News

  • tags: no_tag

    • Some objections

      One: it is not practical.

Two: that it is anti-democratic to force people to vote.

Three: It has a punitive element in it so it is bad.

Four: it amounts to authoritarian move and makes elections something akin to what happens in the people's democracies of Communist regimes, not a liberal regime.

Before explaining why I buy the Modi-sponsored Gujarat Local Authorities Laws (Amendment) Bill 2009 now approved by the legislature on December 19, let me rebut the fourth grievance about the law.

It is not going to promote the 'people's democracy' of totalitarian regimes for there the choices are limited to one political party. In India [ Images ], it is limited, of late, to one kind of candidates though they come, save few honourable exceptions, from diverse parties. They are the moneyed dynasts, with backing of other vested interests.

The Baptist Standard : - Bhutanese refugees hear for first time about birth of Jesus

  • tags: no_tag

    • HOUSTON
    • Bhadra Rai, an emerging Bhutanese Christian leader in Houston, along with the Baptist General Convention of Texas intercultural ministries office, Houston Baptist University and several churches in the area, planned an assembly of cultural performances and presentations to share the Christmas story with more than 250 Bhutanese who arrived in Texas this year.
    • Several young girls perform a traditional Bhutanese dance during a Christmas program. During the evening, more than 250 Bhutanese heard the Christmas story for the first time in their lives. (PHOTO/Clifford Lee)
    • In 1990, the Bhutanese government attempted to create a unified society by forcing all citizens to become Tibetan Buddhists, limiting freedoms and cultural expression within Bhutan. Many Hindu Southern Bhutanese protested but were met with violence, forcing more than 120,000 to seek protection at refugee camps in Nepal and India. Now, many are immigrating to the United States.
    • Because of this, leaders of the Christmas event wanted to give the refugees a night to join with Bhutanese across the city to celebrate their culture in their Nepali heart language— while receiving hope from hearing the Christmas story.
    • The night included cultural dances from the Bhutanese after Deana Severance, the curator of the HBU Bible Museum, told the Christmas story while Linda Renz, an HBU graduate student, illustrated the story on several large canvases. Afterward, Alex Kennedy, pastor of Kingsland Baptist Church, shared a gospel presentation.

The Christmas party served as a way to reach out to the Bhutanese—letting them know people want to help them succeed in their new life in Texas and show them God’s love.

HBU showed its support by providing refreshments and allowing the group to host the event in the Dunham Theater on its campus. Additional refugee ministries and agencies provided Christmas gifts for the children who attended the event.

Oram is state BJP chief - The Times of India

  • tags: no_tag

    • BHUBANESWAR
    • Jual Oram, a tribal leader and former Union minister, who always questioned the functioning of chief minister Naveen Patnaik even when BJP shared power with him, will be the party's new state president. Oram will take charge from present incumbent Suresh Pujari at a big rally scheduled here on Wednesday.
    •
    • During the Congress regime BJP in Orissa was viewed as its B-team. The party nevertheless made a turnaround in its fate in 2000 when it helped Naveen Patnaik, a greenhorn in politics, to avoid split in the non-Congress vote and eventually managing to come to power. But Oram soon became vocal of Naveen's move and started questioning not only his style of functioning. He even suspected that Naveen is steadily trying to weaken BJP's vote base, something that party men now agree in retrospect. Oram became quite vocal. He raised voice on the deteriorating law and order problem in the state and challenged Naveen for the Posco, Vedanta deal. BJP leadership tried to silence him several times. Even Naveen lodged protests against him before the party's national leadership. But Oram was irrepressible.

The Myth of '1000 Years of Hindu Slavery' | Hindu Voice

    • If the Hindus were truly slaves for a thousand years plus, then how have we survived to this day with dignity and honour and with a spiritual tradition stretching back to the mists of time and beyond?
    • This impelled me to look for the truth myself, and undertake a study of the history of the Hindu people.

    • Sandhya Jain
    • The horrific sufferings of the Hindus of Kashmir over centuries, and particularly since independence and the forced exodus of 1989-90, do not need reiteration here. Hence, if there is to be any internal reorganisation of J&K, it should consider the Hindu and Buddhist demands for a separate Union Territory of Ladakh, a separate Jammu state, and a Union Territory of Panun Kashmir north and east of the river Jhelum.

Decision Making in Society « Incognito thoughts

  • tags: no_tag

    • Decision Making in Modern Democracy

In a modern democracy, it is the majority consent that decides matters at societal level.

Majority consent is shaped by public opinion formed on the basis of the following mediums:-

    • 1. News Media
    • 2. Art
    • 3. Academy
    • 4. Government,
    • 5. Political party/NGO activities
    • 6. Commercial organisations
    • 7. Religious discourse
    • 8. Traditions and Culture
    • Society Today

Indian society today, by and large, emulates western society and engages in material advancement at all costs to individual, family, society, nation and Nature. Thus it shows predominantly sudra varna that is transforming into vyshya.
Symbolically, India today is headed by people chosen for their sudra characteristic of followership, though trained to be vyshya – products of the british created education system designed to produce technically qualified workers for the empire.

    • Way Ahead

As rajas rises in society, represented by the transformation to vyshya characteristic from sudra, to check the deleterious effect on human psyche and on Nature, of unbridled rajasic indulgence in materialism, evident in human society today, and for long term sustenance, of individual, society, as well as Nature, tempering and channelization with dharmic considerations are necessary.

Increased deliberations on dharmic aspects at societal level impart kshetriya varna to society and raise sattvic characteristic.

Sustained rise of sattvic characteristic inspire brahma-jnana.

Shadow Warrior: posted here before, but worth re-reading: Easy way to understand Islam

  • tags: no_tag

    • When  Muslim population remains around 1% of any given country they will be
regarded as a peace-loving minority and not as a threat to anyone:

      *United States -- Muslim 1.0%
      Australia -- Muslim 1.5%
      Canada -- Muslim 1.9%
      China -- Muslim 1%-2%
      Italy -- Muslim 1.5%
      Norway -- Muslim 1.8%*

At 2% and 3% they begin to proselytize from other ethnic minorities and
disaffected groups with major recruiting from the jails and among street
      gangs:

      *Denmark -- Muslim 2%
      Germany -- Muslim 3.7%
      United Kingdom -- Muslim 2.7%
      Spain -- Muslim 4%
      Thailand -- Muslim 4.6%*

From 5% on they exercise an inordinate influence in proportion to their
      percentage of the population.
They will push for the introduction of halal (clean by Islamic standards)
food, thereby securing food preparation jobs for Muslims. They will increase
pressure on supermarket chains to feature it on their shelves -- along with
threats for failure to comply. At this point, they will work to get the
ruling government to allow them to rule themselves under Sharia, the Islamic
      Law.

      *France -- Muslim 8%
      Philippines -- Muslim 5%
      Sweden -- Muslim 5%
      Switzerland -- Muslim 4.3%
      The Netherlands -- Muslim 5.5%
      Trinidad & Tobago -- Muslim 5.8%
      *

When Muslims reach 10% of the population, they will increase lawlessness as
a means of complaint about their conditions (Paris -- car-burnings) . Any
non-Muslim action that offends Islam will result in uprisings and threats (
      Amsterdam -- Mohammed cartoons).

      *Guyana -- Muslim 10%
      India -- Muslim 13.4%
      Israel -- Muslim 16%
      Kenya -- Muslim 10%
      Russia -- Muslim 10-15%*
    • After reaching 20% expect hair-trigger rioting, jihad militia formations,
sporadic killings and church and synagogue burning:

      *Ethiopia -- Muslim 32.8%*

At 40% you will find widespread massacres, chronic terror attacks and
      ongoing militia warfare:

      *Bosnia -- Muslim 40%
      Chad -- Muslim 53.1%
      Lebanon -- Muslim 59.7%
      *
From 60% you may expect unfettered persecution of non-believers and other
religions, sporadic ethnic cleansing (genocide), use of Sharia Law as a
weapon and Jizya, the tax placed on infidels:

      *Albania -- Muslim 70%
      Malaysia -- Muslim 60.4%
      Qatar -- Muslim 77.5%
      Sudan -- Muslim 70%*

After 80% expect State run ethnic cleansing and genocide:

      *Bangladesh -- Muslim 83%
      Egypt -- Muslim 90%
      Gaza -- Muslim 98.7%
      Indonesia -- Muslim 86.1%
      Iran -- Muslim 98%
      Iraq -- Muslim 97%
      Jordan -- Muslim 92%
      Morocco -- Muslim 98.7%
      Pakistan -- Muslim 97%
      Palestine -- Muslim 99%
      Syria -- Muslim 90%
      Tajikistan -- Muslim 90%
      Turkey -- Muslim 99.8%

      *
100% will usher in the peace of "Dar-es-Salaam" -- the Islamic House of
Peace -- there's supposed to be peace because everybody is a Muslim:

      *Afghanistan -- Muslim 100%
      Saudi Arabia -- Muslim 100%
      Somalia -- Muslim 100%
      Yemen -- Muslim 99.9%
      *
Of course, that's not the case. To satisfy their blood lust, Muslims then
start killing each other for a variety of reasons.

"Before I was nine I had learned the basic canon of Arab life. It was me
against my brother; me and my brother against our father; my family against
my cousins and the clan; the clan against the tribe; and the tribe against
the world and all of us against the infidel. -- Leon Uris, "The Haj"

Shadow Warrior: Support Children of Arunachal Pradesh & Tribals. NOW you can do it too!

  • tags: no_tag

    • During the recent stand-off with China on Arunachal Pradesh I asked myself a question. Sitting in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Amdavad, Patna what is it that, we the people of India could do for that state.

As I was contemplating answers received a letter the Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalayas Arunachal Pradesh Trust, Dibrugarh, Assam. The letter titled 'Sponsor-a-Child Scheme, your sponsored child's information' gave me the bio-data of Bengia Nimme a twelve year Arunachali girl whose annual education esamskriti had supported by making a contribution of Rs 8,000/.

You too can support education of children of Arunachal Pradesh and make them feel part of India. Ditto for Tribal children and drugg addicted Street children of Mumbai.
