  • Writing on the wall - Ashok V. Desai
  • In April 1946, the Cabinet Mission was holding consultations with Indian leaders about the possible shape of independence. Jinnah was insistent on Partition; Gandhi wanted to pay any price to prevent Partition, but the other Congress leaders, who would have to run the government, balked at the price Jinnah was asking for staying within India. At that time, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad gave an interview to an Urdu magazine of (then Indian) Lahore, Chattan. It was soon overtaken by events and forgotten. But it is remarkable for its prescience. When asked whether he did not think Pakistan had become inevitable, Azad replied that the creation of Pakistan would solve no problem. The cherished goal of a Muslim was to spread Islam; if Muslims had from the outset divided the world between Muslim and non-Muslim territories, Islam would never have spread. If Muslim politicians had not used offensive language, if they had not collaborated with the British to widen the breach between Hindus and Muslims, the number of Muslims would have grown more.
  • The interviewer said that in Pakistan, Muslims would be able to keep their communal identity intact and be good Muslim citizens. Azad said that they had been able to do so under British rule: why should they fear they would not be able to do so in a democratic India in which they would have a voice? India’s border states (Bengal, Punjab, Sind, the North-Western Frontier Province, Baluchistan) had Muslim majorities and shared borders with Muslim countries; there was no way Muslims could be eliminated. Jinnah himself was an ambassador of Hindu-Muslim unity. Till 1937 he had opposed Partition. Then the Congress formed governments in seven states and excluded the Muslim League. In 1940, Jinnah adopted the demand for Pakistan in an effort to check Muslim political decline.

Shri Ram Sena demands the arrest of BJP leaders murderers

  • Bhatkal:
  • While addressing the protestors who had gathered outside circuit house here, the SRS convener of Uttara Kannada District Girish Shetty blamed the police for their failure in nabbing the murderer even after six years. He even charged the BJP Government for their alleged negligence in this regard and accused that the BJP Government itself had failed to arrest the murderer of its own leader.
  • He further said “We may seem small in number, but each of us is no less than any atom bomb. The activists of youth congress tested our courage by blackening the face of our leader Pramod Mutalik. And everybody is well aware of its consequence, it was reported that many youth congress offices across the state were set ablaze within half an hour. We are fearless, but the police department and other officials tremble at our sight when they get to know that Pramod Mutalik is our leader. This is because Pramod Mutalik always fought for the truth and the right of the religion”.

  • Though on the face of it this inference of “New Triangle of Power” theory from above premises sounds plausible but scratch the surface a bit and one finds that these speculative Indians are living in fools paradise as given below:-

  • A fight in UK for Hindus’ right for open-air cremation
  • Seventy-one-year-old Shri Devender Ghai struggling to get the court orders implemented in UK allowing cremation as per Hindu rites THE issue of granting rights for open-air-funeral pyres to Hindus in the United Kingdom brought 71 year old Britain-based Shri Devender Ghai to New Delhi in a bid to seek moral support from the Indians. He is meeting the leaders of various religious, political and social organisations as well as the government officials in New Delhi to seek their support in his fight. "I am here not to collect funds even after I have spent about half-a-crore rupees for the fight but in order to seek moral support from my countrymen," said Shri Ghai while talking to mediapersons in New Delhi on April 29.
  • Even Islamic Republic of Pakistan has allowed open air cremation sites. In the recent example the Pakistan minorities (Hindus) were granted land by Waqf Board at Lahore Bund Road for a cremation ground. In November 2005, at behest of Shri Ghai’s public campaign, the Government of Punjab in Pakistan approved the construction of a cremation ground at Bund Road, Lahore. But on the other hand the British Government has adopted a go slow attitude on the issue. The British authorities are dilly-dallying with Court orders in the hope that this 71 years old veteran shall pass away and the campaign for an open-air-cremation pyre shall cease in due course. Shri Devender Ghai is a disabled pensioner and lives in a Council House. A car with a care taker has been provided by the British Government for his travelling around. But his charity work run from the Council House is not provided funds by the British Charities. Shri Ghai is today on the verge of bankruptcy after spending more than Rs. 36 Lakh on his dream case. He has accumulated debts to the tune of Rs. 27 lakh, thus spending a total sum of Rs. 63 lakhs till date. But the penniless Shri Ghai is firm in his resolve for getting the Hindus their birth right for open air cremation pyre in Britain.

Gadkari plans new-look BJP with Muslim cadre- Hindustan Times

  • BJP president Nitin Gadkari plans to build a cadre of 10-20,000 odd Muslim BJP activists who will work to dispel the “wrong perceptions” many Muslims have about his party. Speaking to senior editors of Hindustan Times, Gadkari said: “The BJP’s tragedy is that of perception versus reality. We are not against Muslims. Neither is the RSS against Muslims.” Asked about the RSS micro-managing the BJP’s affairs, Gadkari was emphatic. “I’m nobody’s man,” he said. “Nor is the RSS trying to control me.”How did he reconcile this with the BJP’s avowed purpose of propagating Hindutva? “Hindutva does not mean that only those going to temples should stay in India,” he said. “The Supreme Court has defined Hindutva, and there is nothing in it that is anti-Muslim. Even following dharma means doing one’s duty according to one’s calling and has nothing to do with religion.”

10 things you should read about 26/11 verdict: Rediff.com India News

  • tags: no_tag

    • The verdict in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks [ Images ] case was extraordinary in many ways. Sheela Bhatt lists the 10 most important things to understand about the judgment.
    • Second, the 26/11 attacks have not divided India. And that is an achievement. As Rehana Bastiwala, a Mumbai-based journalist, said, "Pakistan should get the message clear unlike the 1993 serial Mumbai blasts that divided Indian society; the 2008 terror attacks united India."
    • Fourth, Judge Tahilyani has for some reason not taken into account American terror suspect David Headley's [ Images ] emergence in the Mumbai attacks case. His 1,500-page verdict has missed out the entire Headley saga.

Ujjwal Nikam, the public prosecutor, told reporters that no instruction to include Headley in the case came from the central government. This makes the entire case incomplete because the investigation into Headley was not produced in court by the Mumbai police which had fresh material on hand.

    • Eighth, India has limited reasons to rejoice that Judge Tahilyani declared Kasab guilty. His mentors and the devious minds in Pakistan's establishment, who probably worked behind the scenes in facilitating the Mumbai attacks, are not going to be affected by the trial. They care a damn for it.

The judge has relied heavily on Kasab's statement -- which he later retracted. Beyond his statement, not much has been found by the investigation agencies to fix Kasab's mentors in Pakistan.

    • The judgment in Mumbai lacks better evidence against Kasab's mentors because India does not have the desired access to Headley.
    • America needs to play a fair game with India and be sincere in supporting global war on terrorism.
