Julia Roberts angers Hindus as worshippers are banned from their temple
    • Julia Roberts is being protected by 40 gunmen
    • Villagers hoping to celebrate the beginning of Navratri, nine days of worship of their Goddess Durga at Ashram Hari Mandir, close to Delhi, found their temple sealed by Roberts's vast security team of 350 guards, bulletproof cars and a helicopter.
    • The scale of her security detail, which has been derided as "presidential" in India, and her intrusion into a sacred Hindu ritual has caused wider ill-feeling towards the star of Erin Brockovich, Notting Hill and Pretty Woman.
    • Until her arrival in India, she had been considered one of the West's most "Hindu-friendly" celebrities. She was publicly praised when she sported a bindi spot on her forehead during a visit to the Taj Mahal earlier this year.
