- In the wake of recent reports that suggest the hand of Hindu organisations in trafficking of tribal children, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) on Thursday asked the Karnataka government to submit a report on the status of children from Meghalaya and other North Eastern states studying in various educational institutions in the state. Children, belonging to tribal groups in Meghalaya, are allegedly converted to Hinduism.Acting on complaints of child trafficking from Meghalaya and other North Eastern States to Karnataka in the guise of providing better education facilities to children, the NCPCR on Thursday convened a meeting of officials from the governments of Karnataka and Meghalaya.Chairperson of NCPCR Shanta Sinha asked the Karnataka government to submit details of the mutts, community and family care centers and other hostels in each district of the state, with the list of children from Meghalaya studying in them.
