The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to BJP leader and MP Varun Gandhi on a defamation suit filed by his rival and Congress candidate from the Pilibhit Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh in the last general elections.
Mr. Gandhi was elected from Pilibhit.
Issuing the notice, Justice J.R. Midha asked Mr. Gandhi to file a reply to the suit by July 28. Before issuing the notice, the Court asked the plaintiff, V.M. Singh, to explain the delay in filing the suit.
- The plaintiff in the suit charged that Mr. Gandhi had used defamatory language against him in the election campaign.
