From Editor's Desk: The invitation and the jump (Savarkar) - Sughosh | hindujagruti.org

    • This invitation is not extended to Manmohan Singh. It is to the world famous jump, the incident of Veer Savarkar jumping off a ship at Marseilles. Although the Indian Prime Minister is honoured in terms of appearance, the true figurative honour is conferred upon the 26 years old Veer Vinayak, a salute offered to him in the form of such invitation. It is a kind of obeisance paid by France to the unmatched valour, statesmanship and fierce patriotism of Savarkar. France has unknowingly taken atonement. On 8th July 1909, Savarkar freed himself from the bondage of the British and set his foot on the French land by swimming through the uncontainable sea. Savarkar sought political asylum in France with great hope which had then made a proclamation of freedom, equality and fraternity, surging a new wave in the world. But France did not adhere to its proclamation. Britain was ruling almost the whole world at that time. France bowed before the British dominance and buried its policy of freedom, equality and fraternity.
    • All the ethics and requisites associated with the concept of political asylum were drowned in the sea at Marseilles by France. This led to an upheaval all over the world. There were protests made against France, resulting in the resignation of the then French Prime Minister. Public opinion was generated against Britain all over the world. But it should be remembered that Britain sentenced Savarkar to two life imprisonments and handed over the reins of India in the hands of people of her choice. She made these people divide India. This single mistake by France resulted in creation of Pakistan. Today, Pakistan is the main centre of power of Islamic terrorism. Savarkar’s Divine inspiration will be a panacea to eradicate Islamic terrorism from the whole world. Therefore, a great memorial of international distinction, offering everlasting inspiration of freedom has to be constructed at Marseilles in remembrance of that valorous jump. Let us pray to God to make the Prime Ministers of both the countries realise the need and let us work towards the same. – Sughosh
