No money for stampede victims: Maya

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati on Saturday said her government has ‘no money’ to shell out as compensation to the victims of the Pratapgarh temple stampede.
“The UP government is cash-strapped and has no money to offer the families of the dead and injured,” Maya told local media on Saturday.
“It’s the Centre's Calamities Relief Fund that disperses money for natural disasters. It also provides for tragedies like stampedes,” she added.
At least 63 people were killed and over 50 injured in a stampede at a temple at Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.
The stampede broke out at Ram Janaki temple after a concrete gate collapsed while over 1000 devotees gathered for ‘satsang’ and free lunch (abhandara) hosted by Kripaluji Maharaj.
