    • The judicial commission, probing into the killing of VHP leader Swami Laxamananda Saraswati and the communal violence following his death, was today informed that the slain seer had organised a "Rath Yatra" in Kandhamal against religious conversion in 1986.

This was stated by senior IAS officer Arabind Behera, who was the district collector of the then Boudh-Phulbani district, while deposing before the commission headed by Justice S C Mohapatra.

"Behera said that besides land and fake certificate problems, conversion was also an issue in Kandhamal in 1986.

Saraswati was of the view that Hindus would turn into minority if the conversion continues," Justice Mohapatra told reporters after the hearing.
