Drive for smoke-free Bhogi

    • CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) along with the Chennai Corporation, the Directorate of Environment and the police and fire rescue departments, on Monday launched a massive awareness drive against burning of tyres and plastic during Bhogi festival. “The aim is to make Bhogi a smoke-free and ecofriendly,” said Environment Minister T P M Mohideen Khan. The minister also flagged of five green squad vehicles of TNPCB, which will go around the city sensitising people about the ill effects of burning waste. The campaign will be conducted in 10 zones of the city on January 11 and 12.
