    • Among the toys manufactured for keeping in the models of forts prepared during the Diwali vacation, statue depicting the slaying of Afzal Khan and keeping alive the memories of bravery shown by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was quite popular among children; but this year, such statues are not seen in the market. The reverberations of the riots have now stopped; however, it shows that the fear among Hindus towards Muslims has not yet lessened.

In a news item telecast by a local channel in the background of Diwali festival, Mr. Shivaji Kumbhar, a trader of such statues stated that this year the statues have not been manufactured to avoid hurting religious sentiments of anyone. Every year, children prepare models of forts on the occasion of Diwali to remember the blazing history of Shivaraya and to keep alive the ‘Dharma-tej’. During this year’s Sree Ganesha Festival, Muslims objected to the picture depicting slaying of Afzal Khan by Chhatrapati Shivaraya and started riots, therefore, the sculptors have avoided to make such statues.
