  • SANJAY Malhotra, the owner of an Indian travel company, knows his target market - so he seeks out and recruits gay-friendly guides, taxi drivers and hotel managers. 'Nobody who works for me laughs or passes a silly remark if two men are obviously partners. They treat gays as anyone else because I have hand-picked these people,' he said. Malhotra's company, Indjapink, is a bold venture offering custom-designed travel packages for gay men who are keen to explore India but who are often victims of what he calls 'cheap abuse and insults.'
  • Malhotra, who is also a professional fashion designer, said that while the fight to gain acceptance continues, savvy marketers and entrepreneurs are now chasing the 'pink money'.
  • 'If there is a market for the pink dollar and pink pound, then it is time for pink rupee in India to make its presence felt,' said Malhotra.
  • He is about to launch a company taking tourists to temples dedicated to Bahucharaji, the goddess of transsexuals, as well as shrines of so-called 'gay' saints and ancient sculptures depicting same-sex courtship and intercourse.
  • A small number of hotels, restaurants, shops and night clubs are now catering to homosexual customers in big cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengalaru as they try to tap into a discreet but lucrative niche market.
  • Dhaliwal has been organising private parties for the gay community since 2009 and said business was growing every month. 'We are now planning to start queer-friendly brunches, fashion shows, painting and photo exhibitions. There is a pot of gold at the end of this rainbow,' he said.

    • Chirol mirrored the colonial perception of India as a land obsessed by caste and unable to rise above it. Since the foreign rulers never aimed at being social reformers, they attempted to accommodate this caste obsession in public policy. They documented caste in all its bewildering complexities in the Gazetteers and, most important, attempted to quantify caste allegiances in the Census operations from 1881. As Census Commissioner for the 1911 Census, Sir Herbert Risley went one better. It wasn't enough merely to record the caste preferences of individuals. To make life easier for policy makers, the Census had also to identify "social precedence as recognized by native public opinion." In other words, the administration had to locate a caste in the ritual and social hierarchy and determine which caste was high, intermediate or low.

      Risley's attempt to define caste precedence triggered an upsurge in civil society. Caste groups mobilized to redefine their varna status, undertake changes in ritual practices and even press for changes in caste names. India experienced a bizarre ferment with caste leaders pressing for vegetarianism, restrictions on widow remarriage and changes in the rituals governing marriage and mourning. The Census led to a government-induced process of what MN Srinivas was later to call 'Sanskritization' — social changes premised on the belief that Brahmins were role models.

      For nationalist historians, Risley was a villain promoting 'false consciousness' and furthering a divide-and-rule approach to undermine national unity. The Census was perceived, not merely as a quantitative exercise, but a divisive game which, in the process, reduced Indian society to a hideous caricature.

    Different Religions

    • …To claim that all religions are basically the same…is not to deny the differences between a Buddhist who believes in no god, a Jew who believes in one God, and a Hindu who believes in many gods. It is to deny that those differences matter, however. From this perspective, whether God has a body (yes, say Mormons; no, say Muslims) or whether human beings have souls (yes, say Hindus; no, say Buddhists) is of no account because, as Hindu teacher Swami Sivananda writes, “The fundamentals or essentials of all religions are the same. There is difference only in the nonessentials.”

      This is a lovely sentiment but it is untrue, disrespectful, and dangerous.

    • There is a long tradition of Christian thinkers who assume that salvation is the goal of all religions and then argue that only Christians can achieve this goal. Philosopher of religion Huston Smith, who grew up in China as a child of Methodist missionaries, rejected this argument but not its guiding assumption. “To claim salvation as the monopoly of any one religion,” he wrote, “is like claiming that God can be found in this room and not the next.” It might seem to be an admirable act of empathy to assert that Confucians and Buddhists can be saved. But this statement is confused to the core, since salvation is not something that either Confucians or Buddhists seek. Salvation is a Christian goal, and when Christians speak of it, they are speaking of being saved from sin. But Confucians and Buddhists do not believe in sin, so it makes no sense for them to try to be saved from it. And while Muslims and Jews do speak of sin of a sort, neither Islam nor Judaism describes salvation from sin as its aim. When a jailer asks the apostle Paul, “What must I do to be saved?” (Acts 16:30), he is asking not a generic human question but a specifically Christian one. So while it may seem to be an act of generosity to state that Confucians and Buddhists and Muslims and Jews can also be saved, this statement is actually an act of obfuscation.

      No Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Jain, or Jew etc says all religions are same. So, then why the Hindus show should say it when it is not true? To say it is sheer foolishness. They sing asato maa sat gamaya, but they lie when they say all religions are same, and they do not know it is a lie.

    • Dalai Lama cannot do anything. He the Buddha cannot stop China (the communist) from killing and occupying Tibet. He cannot do it with ahimsaa. He requests the “international community” to help stop China. So, note that ahimsa cannot solve the problem against China, Russia, Saddam Husain’s, Ben Ladins, or Hitlers. It works against the Hindus and Paarsis (Zoroastrians). So, ahimsa is not paramo dharma, not an absolute principle. If it were, it should be able to solve the problem of Dalai Lama. In contrast Hindu dharma includes kshatriya dharma. Therefore, Krishna recommends Arjun to fight, even when Arjun says (in Gita) he does not want to fight.

      Jainism is perverted version of the dharma given by the Rishabh Dev incarnation of Vishnu. Srimad Bhagavatam talks about it in detail. The Jains originally were Hindus who were vaishyas (traders, baniyas). Trading or business is not possible when there is fighting and fear or anarchy in the society. They chose not to fight, and want to avoid himsa at all costs.

    • Jains choose to live in the Vedic land and with the Vedic people. No Jain opens his shop or business in a Muslim country like Saudi Arabia or Afghanistan. They say there is no god, just follow and live like arihantas (the great personalities.) They say the particles of bad karma stick with the soul permanently and there is no way out except following ahimsa and fasting. They do believe in re-incarnation like Buddhists. Because there is no god for them, their sins cannot be washed out. They need to suffer the reactions of their sins. In contrast, the Vedic dharma has god. God or His advanced devotees can wipe out sins of one who surrenders to them completely. Now a days I see that Jains tend to accept Krishna as one of their arihantas. This is good, going back to the roots.

    • Where as the merchants who had no ability to fight became Jains, the farmers of Punjab chose to fight with the invading Muslims. Sikh dharma was born thus. Guru Nanak was a great saint. The Hindus of Punjab had to fight constantly against the invading Muslims coming from northwest. Guru Nanak created a dharma that he thought will be more palatable to the Muslims. Muslims say Allah has no form. So, Nanak accepted advaita siddhanta from the Vedas. And he accepted the kshatriya dharma from the Varnaasrama dharma. So, the Sikhs believe that God has no form, but god is all merciful in contrast to Allah that is not merciful to non-believers. They will fight with any one who does asuric things or tries to take away others’ rights or property. So, they are armed farmers. Now, Jains are unarmed traders. They rely on the Hindus for their protection. They donate to the fighters. Bhaamaashaa is an example.

    • What all are the Internal threats faced by our Nation now?



      A: Our main internal threat is a lack of identity. We should make everyone accept that being Indian does not mean just holding an Indian Passport. Indians should also accept that we are either Hindus or descendents of Hindus which Indian Muslims and Christians are. Hence India is Hindustan. All other threats come from the lack of identity. We should foster development Sanskrit as our national language since every Indian language has a large number of Sanskrit words.




      Hindus are increasingly becoming religious and attend Hindu Temples, Festivals and spiritual camps. How can we politicize Hindus and make them strong nationalists?



      A: By being sincere, and credibly promise that if elected to office, not to betray the people by trying to implement the election commitments.




      Can you elaborate on your association with Sangh Pariwar on various National Issues? Your take on the Ram Sethu and Ayodhya issue.




      A: Although I am not a formal member of RSS I have worked very closely with RSS, especially with the good wishes of Guruji, Madhav Rao Mulay, Nanaji Deshmukh, Dattopant Thengadi, and recently Sudharshanji. From the very beginning I believed Hindutva is the only cement with which we can build a modern strong India. Even when I was campaigning against Vajpayee I worked for re-opening of Kailash & Manasarovar, making the Session Judge Pande, who ordered the locks of the former Babri masjid to be opened to allow puja inside, as High Court judge, and also worked to finding a solution as Law Minister to the Ram temple issue. So Ram Setu etc is just contunuation of same thinking. 




      You are also an expert in Indo- China relations and Indo- Israel relations - Can you please elaborate on both according to current scenario?



      A: China is our neighbour, and Israel is our tested friend in times of need. Hence, we have to befriend both. China has to be managed without sacrificing our national interests, and not as Nehru foolishly did. Israel only needs our love and commitment that we will never let the Arabs over-run it. It is a land of 6 m illion Jews surrounded by 125 million Muslims.
    • Whether you think Hindu organisations are not effectively using our Judiciary to protect Dharma? If yes - What is your advice



      A: Obviously not,  because they have not fought, or fought and won, for any of the Hindu causes in court. That is why with the concurrence of RSS and VHP leaders, the Hindu Dharma Acharya Sabha has set up a legal cell--- under my convenorship.




      Nationalists in Kerala are grateful for your timely intervention to nip Islamic Banking from its bud itself in Kerala, What Is your advice to Kerala Hindu Society on dealing with such Anti National practices aimed at Minority appeasement?



      A: Kerala Hindu society should be aggressive and united as in the Devasom Board issue, and be non-aligned between Communists and Congress. Which means in elections, united Hindus can align with either for seats adjustments.
    • Being a Former Law Minister, Have you ever thought of introducing common civil code and scrapping Article 370 ?




      A: I did and prepared the papers, but our government fell in 1991. When Jayalalitha proposed my name for Minister in Vajpayee's government I was planning to complete the process, but Vajpayee refused to induct me so it remains incomplete.




      How could Hindu Organizations be more politically active and undertake result oriented action strategies?



      A: Of course they must. That is why the HDAS has also formed a Hindu Parliamentary Forum and asked me to help form it. Hindu organisations must strive to build a Hindu vote bank which will make every party try to appease Hindus.




      Do you think that there is a strong anti-Hindu lobby at work in Indian Media ?



      A: It's more a pro-careerist selfish lobby which is afraid of an anti-Hindu government. This lobby will change its tune if a pro-Hindu govt comes to power.




      Why Hindu organizations not interested in starting a national media and television station?



      A: Send Rs 10 crores per year to me for three years. I will return it over five years. If you cannot arrange it, then you have answered your own question.

    • "India, especially Calcutta, is seen as the main beneficiary of Mother Teresa's legendary 'good work' for the poor that made her the most famous Catholic of our times, a Nobel Peace Prize Winner and a living saint. Evaluating what she has actually done here, I think, India has no reason to be grateful to her", said Sanal Edamaruku, Secretary General of the Indian Rationalist Association and President of Rationalist International in a statement on the occasion of her beatification today. The statement continues:

       

      Mother Teresa has given a bad name to Calcutta, painting the beautiful, interesting, lively and culturally rich Indian metropolis in the colors of dirt, misery, hopelessness and death. Styled into the big gutter, it became the famous backdrop for her very special charitable work. Her order is only one among more than 200 charitable organizations, which try to help the slum-dwellers of Calcutta to build a better future. It is locally not very visible or active. But tall claims like the absolutely baseless story of her slum school for 5000 children have brought enormous international publicity to her institutions. And enormous donations! 

      Mother Teresa has collected many, many millions (some say: billions) of Dollars in the name of India's paupers (and many, many more in the name of paupers in the other "gutters" of the world). Where did all this money go? It is surely not used to improve the lot of those, for whom it was meant.

    • One can hear the screams of people having maggots tweezered from their open wounds without pain relief. On principle, strong painkillers are even in hard cases not given. According to Mother Teresa's bizarre philosophy, it is "the most beautiful gift for a person that he can participate in the sufferings of Christ". Once she tried to comfort a screaming sufferer: "You are suffering, that means Jesus is kissing you!" The man got furious and screamed back: "Then tell your Jesus to stop kissing." 

    • Her charitable work, she admitted, was only part of her big fight against abortion and population control. This fundamentalist position is a slap in the face of India and other Third World Countries, where population control is one of the main keys for development and progress and social transformation. Do we have to be grateful to Mother Teresa for leading this worldwide propagandist fight against us with the money she collected in our name? 

      Mother Teresa did not serve the poor in Calcutta, she served the rich in the West. She helped them to overcome their bad conscience by taking billions of Dollars from them. Some of her donors were dictators and criminals, who tried to white wash their dirty vests.

    • But for this subterfuge, the minister will have to concede that the query in the ongoing enumeration, the Query No 11, to the effect ‘citizenship as declared’ is not only contrary to the citizenship law, but is actually a fraud on the law. Read on, with some patience as it is all about law.
      It is the citizenship rules, not the census law, that provide for both the collection and verification of the population data. It is not that, as the minister pretends, information is collected under the census law now and verification takes place, later, under the citizenship law. Just take one mandate in citizenship rules. The citizenship rules direct that ‘during the verification process, particulars of such individuals whose citizenship is doubtful shall be entered with appropriate remark in the Population Register.’ Unless the enumerators are first asked to notice cases of doubtful citizenship, how will such cases come up for verification at all? But, instead of asking them to notice and record the cases of doubtful citizenship during enumeration, see how the census manual directs the enumerators to fill the space against Query No 11 ‘Nationality for each of the enumerated person has to be asked from the respondent and recorded. …… Please record the nationality of the respondent as declared by her/him for each of the persons enumerated. Do not get into any argument with the respondent regarding this.’(See Para 5.21.1 of general instructions). That is, when the citizenship rules ask for doubtful cases of citizenship to be identified, the census manual to collect details under the very citizenship rules virtually says ‘don’t doubt the respondents on their claim of nationality; just record what they say.’ How then will suspect cases of citizenship be discovered? Clearly, the ongoing enumeration is not intended to discover suspect citizenship, but to suppress them, and make them appear genuine. Can the minister deny that Query No 11, read with the census manual, exposes his lie?
    • Shockingly, anyone who had entered into India six months before the census, or any one who intends to stay for six months after, becomes a ‘usual resident’ under the ongoing census rules. Such persons, thanks to the census, can declare themselves as Indian citizens in response to Query No 11. And more shockingly, the government proposes to issue ‘National Identity Cards’ to all such people even though under the law, ‘National Identity Cards’ are allowed only for Indian citizens.
    • Imagine, like Kasab who did the mayhem in Mumbai on 26/11, a Pakistani enters India today and promises to be here for six more months, he is eligible to declare himself as an Indian citizen in response to Query No 11, also get a National Identity Card. He will be an Indian terrorist, not a Pakistani jihadi. According to intelligence sources, some 40,000 Pakistanis have entered India and after throwing their passports away, they have melted into Muslim-dominated areas.
    • QED: The ongoing population census is undoubtedly an anti-national venture. It is placing millions of timeless bombs all over India. Is the home minister, who seems lost in legalisms, aware?

    • If you read between the lines, the Deobandh fatwa is asking for separate office space and seating arrangements for women employees to be made available in offices. Very soon if some women muslim gets a job in an office her parents, relatives and local muslim organisation will land up at the office premises demanding a separate office space, don't be surprised it will happen very soon. This is how muslims impose their religion on others. Soon they will ask separate driving lanes for muslim women. Demand that a normal cop cannot stop a muslim women driver, only a muslim women cop can challan or stop a muslim women driver. Only a muslim women can teach to muslims girls in schools, muslims should buy groceries only from muslim shops and products made by muslims. These demands can go on and on and on till they will just carve out a separate society for themselves parallel to ours and thats the end objective in any case.

Nagar Police Station at Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh at 10.15 p.m. on Friday, May 28, 2010 to launch a pre-planned attack on Dr. Pravinbhai Togadiya, Secretary General of Vishva Hindu Parishad. Dr Togadiya was at the house of a VHP sympathiser for dinner. Dr Togadiya was on the Hyderabad leg of his routine All Bharat tour conducting peaceful organizational programmes. He had no public programme at Hyderabad city – he came there only in the evening after attending an organizational camp programme far away from the city.

      VHP President Sri Ashok Singhal has sounded the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister, Leaders of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, the Chief Minister and the Home Minister of Andhra Pradesh about the incident drawing their attention to the fact that this Jihadi posture has very serious implications. “After the Godhra incident, this is the first time that Jihadi elements tried to repeat their terrorist act of this nature.”, Sri Singhal reminded them. Sri Singhal informed that the Hyderabad police was very lethargic in taking action. It came after 45 minutes and quelled the Jihadists.

    • Janata party president Subramanian Swamy said the proposal under consideration of the Union Cabinet to include caste in the bio details to be enumerated in the census 2011 will, if implemented, be disastrous for the nation like the British imperialist proposal in 1932 for a separate electorate for scheduled castes.

       

      In a statement, Swamy said the 1932 proposal was shot down by Gandhiji's fast un to death and the sagacity of Dr B R Ambedkar.

       

      Swamy urged the RSS to launch a national disobedience movement if the Cabinet accepts this proposal for caste census.

       

      "Caste is not, according to Gita (Chapter IV), birthbased and hence time has come for Hindus to jettison this baggage of history once and for all," the Janata party leader added.

    • After Jaswant Singh, another proposed homecoming is being talked about within the BJP.

    • Sudheendra Kulkarni, LK Advani’s former aide and the man who ran the former deputy prime minister’s war room during the 2009 election campaign, is likely to be rehabilitated.

      There is a strong possibility that Kulkarni may be offered a position in party president Nitin Gadkari’s office.

      Gadkari was said to be particularly impressed by Kulkarni’s “diligence” and had described him as an “original thinker”.

    • Kulkarni parted ways with the BJP in 2009, when he blamed the RSS and its network for the BJP's election defeat.

      Kulkarni, who began life as a Communist-oriented journalist, has worked for a variety of entities — from Blitz to the BJP, the Hindujas to the Ambanis.

      He recently took up a position at the Observer Research Foundation, a think-tank backed by Reliance Industries Limited.

    • He tried his luck with the Trinamool Congress over the past year, and was even nominated to a committee of the Indian Railways. However, in recent times, Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee has been guarded about Kulkarni.

      एक अंग्रेजी अखबार के अनुसार धर्म परिवर्तन करने वाले समूह के एक करीबी रिश्तेदार मंगत राम ने कहा है कि उन लोगों पर उनके मुसलमान मालिकों द्वारा इस्लाम स्वीकार करने का दबाव था।

    • मंगत राम के मुताबिक निका पिंडी गांव में रहने वाले चार हिन्दू भाई हंस राज, कंसराज, मीना/करतार और सरदारी लाल अपने बेटों और भतीजों के साथ कराची में खाने-पीने की चीजें बनाने वाली फैक्ट्रियों में काम करते थे। जहां वे काम करते थे, उसके मालिक का कहना था कि बिक्री इस वजह से गिरी कि लोग हिन्दुओं के हाथ का बना सामान खरीदना नहीं चाहते थे। वह बिक्री बढ़ाने के दबाव में था।

    • मंगत राम के मुताबिक मुसलमान बनने की वजह यह थी कि ऐसा कर जिंदगी आसान हो जाएगी। कोई उनके साथ भेदभाव नहीं करेगा। धर्म परिवर्तन करने वालों में से एक प्रकाश ने मंगत को बताया कि उसके मुसलमान पड़ोसी उसके साथ दुर्व्यवहार करते थे। तपियाला गांव के 14 लोगों ने इस लिए धर्म बदला कि वे बहुत गरीबी में जी रहे थे। हिन्दू होने के कारण कोई उन्हें काम नहीं देता था।

      इसके बाद हमलावर और तोगड़िया के समर्थकों के बीच हाथापाई की भी खबर है। तोगड़िया ने बताया कि वे एक परिचित के यहां भोजन के लिए जा रहे थे। तभी कट्टरवादियों ने उन्हें निशाना बनाने की कोशिश की। हमलावर घातक हथियार लिए हुए थे और भड़काऊ भाषा बोल रहे थे।

      Human Body consists of seven chakras, Dr Tapadia explains so far he has never been able to find 100 per cent development of Sahasrar Chakra and Muladhar chakra in anyone’s aura, but Asaram Bapu has these chakras fully developed to 100 per cent.
    • Additional experiments have also been conducted on disciples to see the impact of meditation and chanting on energy around the human body.     • Yet, once upon a time, caste was an arrangement for the distribution of functions in society, just as much as class in Europe, but the principle on which this distribution was based was unique and adapted to India’s social needs. It is true that the caste system degenerated and that it bred exploitation and abuses, which were often unforgivable. But look at today: it is the Brahmins who have become the Dalits of India. Brahmins are in minority in most of the UP villages, where Dalits constitute 60 to 65 per cent ; most of the intellectual Brahmin Tamil class has emigrated outside Tamil Nadu; the average income of Brahmins is less than that of non-Brahmins; a high percentage of Brahmin students drop out at the intermediate level ; 75 per cent of domestic help and cooks in Andhra Pradesh are Brahmins; and most of Delhi’s public toilets are cleaned by Brahmins (Brahmins of India by J. Radhakrishna, published by Chugh Publications, 2007).
    • What is sure is that if there is a caste census, the greatest sufferers will be the ‘other’ non-Dalit Hindus, who constitute nearly 40 per cent of the Hindu community (unfortunately they are hopelessly divided). Indeed, we live today in an India where Hindus, the overwhelming majority of this country, are treated like an inconsequential minority. An India, where it’s okay to free the two Muslims convicted by the Mumbai police for helping in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, but where Swami Nityananda, a grown-up adult, who had consensual sex with a grown-up woman, is thrown in jail. An India, where the so called-Hindu terrorists of Malegaon, or Ajmer, languish in prison without ever having been convicted, but where those guilty of having killed so many people in the German Bakery of Pune, have never been caught, as there is no political will to do so. An India, where many institutions have been subverted by the Government to the point that in exchange for Mayawati’s support in the recent cut motion, the CBI lifted all cases against her. An India which is supposed to be the largest democracy in the world, but where phones are tapped, where politicians who take thousands of crores as bribes, get away with it, and where people are scared to speak aloud. An India where Sir Mark Tully (who most definitely wrote Hindutva, Sex & Adventures), is considered an icon of ‘fair’ journalism, whereas, when he was BBC’s correspondent, he set standards in reporting on South Asia, which still stand today and harm India’s image. Even though since the mid-Eighties, Pakistan encouraged, financed, trained and armed Kashmiri separatism, Tully always made it a point to say: “India accuses Pakistan to foster separatism in Kashmir”; or : “elections are being held in Indian- held Kashmir”; or “Kashmir militants ” have attacked an army post, instead of “terrorists”. All the other foreign journalists, yesterday and today have followed the BBC’s benchmarks.

    • The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Kerala chapter has launched Shivaji Hindu Helpline to offer assistance to the Hindus in distress including the girls who fall victims in the trap being laid by the 'love jihadis'.

       

      The helpline, set up at the Hindu Cultural Centre at the Paavakkulam Temple complex at Kaloor in Ernakulam, has been receiving large number of distress calls. Though, the helpline will provide assistance such as legal and medical help to the Hindus, it is also meant to receive information on terrorist activities, cow slaughter etc. Cibin, helpline coordinator, said that the helpline no: 9497545511 had received around 8,000 calls so far. A diary has been maintained to keep all the information regarding the callers.

       

      Parents, friends and the victims themselves are calling the helpline seeking assistance. Till now, around 750 cases have been reported to the police.

       

      Of this, 366 girls from various communities have been rescued from the 'trap', with the initiative of the VHP and Bajrang Dal workers. 72 Nair, 33 Ezhava, 14 Christians and 90 Brahmin girls were among the rescued. 113 girls were rescued directly by the VHP and the Bajrang Dal workers, he said.

       

      VHP state secretary Kalady Manikantan told Express that many girls would get converted after being selectively employed in shops run by the Muslims. The modus operandi is to persuade the Hindu and Christian girls by offering them job security, promotion and salary hike, he said.

    • A counselling centre has also been opened in Kochi. A website 'kerala hinduhelpline.com' will be launched soon offering assistance to the needy. Modelled on the Kerala initiative, 'All India Hindu Helpline' will be launched in Pune soon on the direction of VHP international secretary general Dr Praveen Bhai Togadia, Manikantan said.

    • It said the Sanstha wanted the government to either ban such celebration/competitions or prevent the very organisation of such competitions.

      According to historian Prajal Sakhardande, the slaying of Narakasura during Diwali, is a tradition unique to Goa.

      "Elsewhere in the country, it is Ravana who is slain during Diwali, in Goa it is the Narakasura," Sakhardande said.

      Narrating the Narkasura myth, the Goa-based historian said that the demon had once captured some 15,000 women and made them slaves, then Lord Krishna slayed him and freed his captives.

      "To express their gratitude, the women lit lamps to symbolise the victory of good over evil, which is what Diwali is about," Sakhardande said.

      But the Sanstha feels the practice has acquired a different dimension over the years.

      "We are opposed to the celebration of the demon. In some competitions, thousands of rupees are given in reward to those groups who make the biggest or the best looking effigies of Narakasura. That's what we are opposing," a senior Sanstha member said, echoing sentiments often expressed in the Sanatan Prabhat, a daily newspaper run by the Sanstha, during Diwali.

    • हमारे देश का नाम भारत है। इस नाम के अतिरिक्त इसके दो नाम और भी हैं, हिन्दुस्तान और इंडिया। अब आप सोचेंगे कि देश के ये तीन नाम कैसे पड़े? 

      भगवान राम के पूर्वज सम्राट भरत, चक्रवर्ती सम्राट हुए हैं। इनका साम्राज्य कश्मीर से कन्याकुमारी तक फैला हुआ था। उनके नाम पर ही देश का नाम भारतवर्ष पड़ा।

    • हिमालय के पश्चिम में सिंधु नदी बहती है और एक बहुत बड़ा भू-भाग इससे घिरा है। इस भू-भाग को सिंधु घाटी कहते हैं। सिंधु घाटी सभ्यता बहुत प्रसिद्ध हुई है। मध्ययुग में जब तुर्किस्तान से कुछ विदेशी लुटेरे और ईरानी लोग देश में आये तो सर्वप्रथम उन्होंने सिंधु घाटी में प्रवेश किया। यहां के निवासियों को उन्होंने हिन्दू नाम दिया, जो सिंधु का ही एक अपभ्रंश है। हिन्दुओं के देश को उन्होंने हिन्दुस्तान के नाम से जाना और प्रचलित किया।

      अब देखते हैं देश का नाम इंडिया कैसे पड़ा। सिंधु नदी का दूसरा नाम इंडस वैली भी कहा जाता था। सिंधु घाटी की सभ्यता रोम की सभ्यता की तरह प्रसिद्ध थी और पूरे देश में फैली हुई थी। इंडस वैली के कारण ही देश का नाम इंडिया पड़ा।

      इंडिया नाम प्रचलित होने का एक अन्य कारण और भी है। जब अंग्रेज देश में आये तो उन्हें हिन्दुस्तान अथवा हिन्द का उच्चरण करने में कठिनाई हुई। इसका हल भी उन्होंने खोज लिया। उन्हें मालूम चला कि सिंधु घाटी का नाम इंडस वैली भी है। अत: उन्होंने हमारे देश को इंडिया नाम दिया और देश पूरे विश्व में इंडिया के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हो गया। एक अन्य मत के अनुसार जब अलेक्जैंडर भारत आया तो उसने अंग्रेजी में HINDU का H हटाकर देश को INDU नाम से जाना, जो बाद में INDIA (इंडिया) बन गया। वैसे देश के संविधान में इसका नाम भारतवर्ष ही है।

      • While it is nobody’s case that Hindu terror groups should be treated any differently from the jehadi groups wreaking havoc in the country, there are some essential points of difference, and they need to be noted. One, while the Pakistan-bred terror groups cannot be controlled, the India-based ones, and especially Hindu-linked ones, are easier to rein in for the simple reason that the police will find them easy to infiltrate.

        They can be neutralised in no time, given the political will.

        The same cannot be said for the home-grown Muslim terror groups which sometimes offer tacit support to the likes of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT). Elements in radical Islamic organisations like Simi have been known to work closely with non-Indian terror groups, and the police have so far been unable to infiltrate them, thanks to deep suspicions about police impartiality within the community. Quite obviously, remedying this lacuna should be the first priority of the intelligence and law-enforcement agencies.

    • The second point of difference is the larger root-cause issue. While Pakistan-based terror groups have the annexation of Kashmir and the Islamisation of the world as their ultimate goals, the Hindu militant groups have more limited aims: to consolidate their power base among Hindus in India, preferably through communal polarisation. That they have not succeeded so far is largely the result of the innate good sense of Hindus than any great secular effort. As a group, Hindus tend to be inwardly-focused and less inclined towards millenarian causes.
    • The third point of difference is the uneven nature of Indian secularism. India’s phony secularists believe that majority communalism should be fought with abuse and bluster, but minority communalism should be brushed under the carpet. Harbans Mukhia, a history professor at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University, has repeatedly made the same point.
    • We need to understand the main reason for this unevenness in the language used by Indian secularists. Many upper class Hindus are ashamed to be Hindus, a factor I spoke about in my last column, too. Thanks to centuries of living under British colonial domination, Hindus lost their self-esteem. The political purpose of the British colonial project was to show Indian culture and achievements as inferior, and to ensure that the upper classes bought this logic and internalised destructive self-criticism.

    • It revealed that on average 44% of people in Pakistani-administered Kashmir favoured independence, compared with 43% in Indian-administered Kashmir.

    • Dr Bradnock said that in the Kashmir valley - the mainly Muslim area at the centre of the insurgency - support for independence is between 74% and 95%.

      But in the predominantly Hindu Jammu division to the south, support is under 1%.

    • Dr Bradnock said that it was "clear" that a plebiscite on the future of Kashmir - along the lines envisaged in UN resolutions of 1948-49 - is "extremely unlikely to offer a solution today".

    • "Sneak into India fast and do something big," said an HM commander to one of the outfit's leaders based in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir during a conversation intercepted recently by security agencies, officers of the Indian Army today said.

      The conversation took place between A-category commander of HM code Alfa 01 in Pir Panchal Ranges with HM commander in POK Abu Suhaib.

    • The call for infiltration given by an HM commander on this side of the border to his POK-based counterpart is being seen by the Indian Army as a sign of growing frustration among HM cadres after elimination of a large number of the militant outfit's top rung leaders in encounters in the recent past.

      "As is evident, terrorists especially leaders have been on the run in both Kashmir valley as well as in Jammu region due to increasing number of encounters initiated by security forces in past," army officers said.

      "As compared to the past practice of staying in hideouts, militants have changed their tactics and are now regularly on the move, not staying in one house for more than three hours due to fear of encounters", they said.

      They do not trust the local population whether Hindus or Muslims any more and are always on the run trying to revive lost ground, they said.

      गोस्वामी तुलसीदास रचित रामचरितमानस की यह पंक्तियां भगवान शंकर के दिव्यधाम कैलास की हिंदू जनमानस में मान्यता, महत्व और उत्सुकता को प्रतिपादित करती हैं।

    • मैं इस तीर्थयात्रा का साक्षी होने के कारण कह सकता हूँ कि यह केवल भारत से चीन तक की दुर्गम यात्रा नहीं है। यह वह अध्यात्म पथ है जो जीव को जीवित रहते हुए ही ईश्वर तक ले जाता है। पुराणों में 'सशरीर स्वर्गारोहण' शायद इसे ही कहा गया होगा। इस यात्रा में दुर्गम पथ भी हैं, आँधी-तूफान-बारिश भी और वह प्रतिकूल परिस्थितियां भी जहाँ श्वांस लेना भी श्रम प्रतीत होता है। यहाँ आधुनिक जीवन का कोई तत्व नहीं पर पंचतत्व से निर्मित मानव शरीर प्रकृति से सामंजस्य बना ही लेता है। यह शिवकृपा से ही संभव है।

    • मानसरोवर का जल इतना ठंडा था कि पूरा शरीर थरथरा उठा किंतु उस थरथराहट में भी एक आत्मिक सुख, मानसिक ऊर्जा इंगित कर रही थी कि यह अनुभव दुर्लभ है। यह अनुभव पवित्र है और यह वह जल है जिसमें संभवत: स्वयं औघड़-अविनाशी-नीलकंठ भगवान शिव स्नान करते होंगे।

      कैलास के दिव्य दर्शन और मानसरोवर के जल में स्नान करते हुए मुझे साक्षात् शिव की प्रतीति हो रही थी। यह दृश्य लगभग 15-20 मिनट तक ही रहा। इसके बाद पुन: कैलास को बादलों ने ढंक लिया।

    • अपनी स्थापना के 135 साल बाद आर्य समाज संगठन अपने उद्देश्यों से भटक गया लगता है। 10 अप्रैल 1875 को जब बम्बई में स्वामी दयानंद सरस्वती ने आर्य समाज का गठन किया था, तब उसका मुख्य उद्देश्य वैदिक संस्कृति को मानने वाले ऐसे लोगों का समूह बनाना था, जो सामाजिक बुराइयों के खिलाफ़ लड़ सकें। इसके कामकाज में गुरुकुल-स्कूलों का संचालन, शुद्धि सभाएं करना आदि थे। इसे ‘Society of Noble people’ का नाम दिया गया था। अब आर्य समाज ने अपनी भूमिका केवल प्रेम विवाह करवाने वाली संस्थान तक सीमित कर ली है।
